Unlike Bush, in his statements following the 2004 election, you truly DO have a mandate! And the American people expect you to use it!
CommonDreams.org reports:
Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) is facing a full-blown revolt from liberal House Democrats over the $98 billion Iraq supplemental bill, according to Democratic insiders. Anywhere between 50 to 75 Democrats are now threatening to vote against the bill because it doesn't go far enough toward ending the war, including setting a date certain for withdrawal of U.S. combat forces from Iraq, said the sources. Pelosi and Democratic leaders are expected to postpone markup of the Iraq bill in the House Appropriations Committee by at least a week in order to buy time to resolve the matter.
Trying to build a relationship with Congressional Republicans is not worth the loss of even one more life in a war that was a mistake from the start. Yes, the Republicans pushed you around when they ran the show, and yes you promised to do things differently when Democrats were in charge -- but this is not the time to play nice. People's lives are at stake.
What's more important -- one US soldier's life, or whether or not a few Republicans get their feelings hurt?
