She began having health problems at age six, and they just continued getting worse over the years, but she was quite a trooper about it all. A little more than two years ago we discovered she was blind, but it was very hard to tell given that she was so good at getting around the house.
Last December she was diagnosed with Cushing's Disease, which basically destroyed her immune system. From then on every time she would get sick she would really be sick. Her little body simply could not fight anything off. But she remained in much better spirits than I would have been, had the tables been reversed.
She woke me up every morning at 7:00 am, wanting her breakfast. And you could have set your watch by her accuracy when it was "cookie" time -- 10 pm. If I didn't make a move toward the kitchen, she would let me know in no uncertain terms that it "was time."
She was such a joy and will be deeply missed.

Oh honey I'm so sorry. Sending you lots of love and we'll have hugs this weekend. xoxo
I'm so sorry for your loss. Pets are family and it's always hard to lose a loved one.
I lost my beloved Princess five years ago. I knew when I went to bed that she would probably not survive the night. I was up at 5 am burying her and I am not ashamed to admit that I bawled like a baby - not cried, mind you, but bawled.
So sorry to hear this.
Oh BAC, I am so very sorry to hear this.
The loss of a pet is so hard to bear. Their love for us is so unconditional and so pure.
In 2002 I had to put my cat down and his sibling died in his sleep in 2004. The loss is so difficult to take.
Please know I send you my every good thought and wish for consolation.
In addition, it is a busy time for you. Hang in there and do what you must do for you.
My heart is united to yours in this sadness dear BAC. I wish you peace.
Fran
Oh... I wish there were some way to ease your pain. There really is nothing to say beyond letting you know that there are total strangers around the world who wish you well at a very difficult time.
I know when my pets pass it will be a dark time for my home.
Sorry to hear it. It's been several years, but I still remember when we lost the family cat, who was ancient but somehow survived all the health problems. It's tough. There's something very pure and special about the bond with a pet.
I'm sorry, BAC, about the loss of your friend.
I'm thinking of you.
I came over from FranIAm's blog.
I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. I wish you well, and I know from my own experience losing my 14yo kitty a couple of years ago that it will get better. But I won't kid you--I still get sad when I think of her, but I remember how long and full her life was, and it gets a little easier. All my best wishes to you and the other pups.
So sorry, BAC. Hugs.
I'm so, so sorry to hear about your loss. I lost the first pet I ever had (she was still living with my parents) two years ago, and lost it on the phone 500 miles away to hear it. I'm losing it now. I can only imagine what you're going through.
Energy, so much healing energy from so many places in your direction.
I am so so sorry, dogs are family, and to lose such a special friend, but even looking at the picture it can be seen that this little wonder was so loved and happy....you gave this creature a special home...and a place in your heart...sending you much light....
I feel for you. I almost lost my dog Woofus last week, who also has Cushings (2+ years) and Diabetes. Lucky thing he seems to be part cat.
Take care.
*big hugs*
I totally understand.
I lost my Elijah about two years ago. Like a lot of tomcats, he had problems with his urinary tract. The vet told me that there was only about a 50% chance that surgery would work, and I didn't have the $4000 to spend.
So I got the joy of seeing him waste away to nothing.
You are in my thoughts.
I'm so very sorry for your loss.
I'm sorry to hear that BAC. I recently lost my pooch-cat, and I know how much it sucks.
Oh B....
You know I love you and I'm sending a big fat hug to ya and the rest of the kids. Much love and strength to you.
Hope to see you soon.
I'm sorry. Those little beasties wiggle their way into our hearts. My sweet corgi, Georgia, has both diabetes-linked blindness and probably cushings, though we don't feel like putting her through the tests because the treatment is supposed to be brutal.
What is hard with a pet, is being witness to the entire life cycle.
You wrote a sweet eulogy. Thinking of you.
I'm so sorry for your loss. I'm a dog guy who hasn't had a dog in years but I still feel the pain when someone like you loses a canine companion.
My deepest condolances. I know how an animal can fill your whole world. My cat is getting very old and can hardly move around anymore. It is so sad to watch her try to climb on to a chair or try to clean herself. She used to be so filled with energy. I can't imagine my world without her. Most people I can live without, but not my dear cat.
Sorry for your loss. I still remember having to put down the dog I grew up with. It was a relief knowing his suffering was over, but losing one of your best friends is never something you forget or even want to forget. It will become more bearable with time though. I wish you well.
I'm so sorry you lost your beautiful companion! It hurts, hurts, hurts. I've never forgiven UPS for taking my sweet Black Jack 14 years ago.....Big hugs to you.
Deepest condolences, BAC. I've lost one of my 3 cats in the last year and am facing the loss of a second probably soon. I will be thinking of you.
I'm really sorry to hear about that, BAC. She was a beautiful puppy.
Dogs (and cats) are more than pets, they are family.
BAC,
I am very sorry for your loss, my friend.
Peace.
I'm so sorry for your loss BAC. I know you must feel miserable.
My condolences. It hurts to lose a family member - even if that member is the four-footed variety.
Am sorrowed to read of your loss, Braco Lee. You shared much with your pet and can know that pup enjoyed many years of your love.
Thank you to everyone for your kind words. This is a huge loss for me, but it gives me comfort to know that it seems she died in her sleep. I went to the vet's to say good-bye and she looked so peaceful. No more pain. My loving friend spared me having to make what would have been a crushing decision. In the end, she was still protecting me.
Thanks again,
BAC
I am so very sorry for your loss.
Prayers to you and yours.
Peace and Love.
:(
BAC, Dear Lady, I'm so sorry to hear this. What great sadness comes with the loss of a friend.
I had to put "my only son" Charlie down this past winter, and it may have been the hardest thing I've ever done; nearly a year later, I cried, really cried, when I heard about your loss.
Peace and courage to you, girl. She's in a better place.
Maybe even frolicking with my Charlie, her with two good eyes and him cancer-free, and both of them with halos! ;)
Nothing is more heart breaking then watching our pets suffer. I am so sorry for your loss. My "grandbaby" passed away a couple of weeks ago after suffering severe vomiting. The vet didn't know why but I wonder now because he was still a big pup and liked to tear all his toys apart.
Please, please be aware of where your pets' toys might come from. I wonder now since I started looking at the tags and labels. (He didn't shed, then 3 weeks before the illness, a lot of hair would be in his comb.)
Again, I am sorry for your loss and the chance to tell you about mine. My cats miss Harley more than my other dog does, I think. ;) Your other babies are darling.
PS. Wonderful blog.
Me Dearest BAC, there is nothing that can be said t'soothe yer soul. Not right now - an' I won't try.
What I will be saying is that ye have a heart o'pure gold an' I know that yer princess was well-beloved indeed.
Me Day Job be workin' with animals, so I understand...very, very much.
Tell Blue Gal she must ye a hug from me when ye are together. Would that I could be there t'hold ye myself.
I'm so sorry for your loss. Hope you find solace in knowing she had a wonderful life with you.
My condolances, I hope the happy memories will sustain you during your grief.
Sorry to hear of your loss, BAC; I've only been with Annie P a year, but she better plan on living a long time! Prayers and blessings for our pets.
She's the first after my empty-nester transition; she's mine.
BAC, I am very sorry for your loss. My lumpy old-lady dog (12+ years) is my first dog ever and she's so wonderful. Having her companionship for so long has been a real gift, as I'm sure Braco Lee's was.
I am sorry i am late to the party, but I also send my condolences. I am sure some or everyone said it better, but if I sit and read them, i will stat to cry and I am not in the mood to cry right now. Again I am sorry to hear about the passing of Braco.
