But what if there were no moderators? What if the two candidates could simply talk about important issues of the day, and how they propose to solve the myriad of problems being left behind by George W. Bush? What if each of them could speak for say, two or three minutes, and then the other one would talk. Now that sounds like a good idea. I only wish I'd thought of it myself! ha
Sen. Barack Obama says he's done debating, but he's facing a double team effort to force him into another one-on-one session with Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton.Gee, Sen. Clinton really does offer solutions!
The New York Senator again challenged him to a debate in Indiana, but with a new twist: no moderators.
"Just the two of us going for 90 minutes asking and answering questions," Clinton said to a crowd of several thousand at a rally held at a minor-league baseball stadium here. "We'll set whatever rules seem fair."

Several debates ago, the debates ceased being about issues. It's just a game of gotcha now, with the only purpose of the debates being to hope to trip up the opponent into making a bad-sounding sound bite.
It is not really substantive. I don't expect much in the way of any sort of good campaign tactics from Hillary. She is the one who has on her web site attacking Oback Barama for what he said in kindergarten...
Actually, Hillary seems to be holding her own now. If only she can get people like her own husband and Geraldine Ferraro to stop making racist statements.
dmarks - welcome! I think our silly MSM is to blame for the "gotcha" debates. This could be a perfect solution for each candidate to actually get to talk about policy issues during a debate.

I would want to watch a debate between the two if it weren't like a huge frantic argumant where everyone is trying to get their words in edgewise and be "right" rather than "different". I guess I just get enough of that in my personal life, and am tired of it, but it kinda is the definition of debate, huh? I would be interested in a mature conversation in which they simply discussed their stances on the issues. I just think competition is overrated.
I would agree with you that this was a good idea, BAC, if it weren't for Clinton's habit of leading the charge on these nonsense "issues", including during the last debate.
The best option would be a moderated debate moderated by someone knowledgeable in the field (foreign policy, my pet peeve of science...) rather than someone being paid per advertiser roped in.
Fredia Bee - I blame the MSM for turning these into "gotcha" debates ... they love that shit.
John - That's BS, and you know it -- but, one way to find out would be for your guy to show up! The two could decide in advance on topics, and how long each would have to speak. Why bring in a "middle man" when they have all done such a terrible job so far. At least this way there could be no charge of "bias" on the part of a moderator.
