Charlton Heston, the public face of the NRA, once said "I have only five words for you: From my cold, dead hands."
Okay Chuck ... hand it over.

DETROIT -- Detroit police say a 3-year-old girl found a gun in a bedroom of her home and shot herself in the head. Her condition wasn't immediately known.
One of the girl's parents apparently owned the gun with which she shot herself Sunday afternoon. At least one parent was home at the time. The Detroit Free Press says police questioned the parents and took the gun.
The girl was taken to Sinai Grace Hospital, then transferred to Detroit Children's Hospital.

Can we finally have a sensible gun policy in this country?

A sensible gun policy? What are you? Some whacko crazy librul?
How sad for that little girl. It breaks my heart to read such stories. I can't understand how people leave guns where kids can get to them.
My father did. He left a hand gun, and the bullets, in a place where I could find them ... and I did. I was about 6 or 7. I loaded the gun, and played with it for days, before my Mother found it. I would stick it down the front of my jeans, like the cowboys did. I even pointed it at members of my family, but thankfully didn't pull the trigger. My dad was in the doghouse for months after that one.
A "sensible" policy might suggest placing the weapon under lock and key, or at least not storing the bullets right next to the gun. We lived in a town of 2,000 people that had virtually no crime! My dad didn't need that gun ... and he didn't get to keep it after what happened.

Is it bad of me that this was the very first thought I had after hearing of his death?
