Size matters

Or, what's wrong with this picture?

One of my coworkers purchased these two shirts for her children. When she took a closer look at them she became concerned. You see, the green shirt on top is a 'children's medium' for her son, and the burgundy shirt on the bottom is a 'woman's extra-large' for her daughter.

So what's up with sports clothing promoters? Are they trying to tell women we need to be the same size as six-year old children? The difference in the size of these two shirts is just inches. My coworker, who I would consider an average sized woman, cannot wear the 'women's extra-large' shirt.

I still can't figure out sizes when I go shopping. It seems that the size that fits me is always the one that the store is out of.
