Todd set to be Alabama's first lesbian state legislator

It's been a very busy week, so please indulge my desire to comment on this.

With no Republican opponent, Patricia Todd is likely to become Alabama's first openly gay state legislator. Alabama Democrats reinstated Todd as the Party's nominee for a seat in the Alabama Legislature in a conflict that AP reports was ". . . more on the race of the candidates than sexual orientation."

Rarely does the lesbian or gay candidate prevail when challenged -- so this is a surprising and welcomed turn of events.

The legislative district is predominately African American, and people of color are vastly under represented in politics, but it does not appear that any dirty tricks were used by Todd to win the primary battle. The vote was close, but she did win in what was by all account a fair fight.

A supporter of Todd's primary opponent Gaynell Hendricks predicts there will be a write-in candidate on the November ballot. That seems to be part of the political landscape these days, but for now lesbians and gays can rejoice in another victory.

I am enjoying your blog. I have a question: "On my own blog, how do I get the words to be next to the pictures?" I can't seem to manager that... Anyways, I think your blog is really informative as well as interesting. Feel free to check mine out as well... browndiamonds.blogspot.com

In blogspot it asks you where you want a picture, on the left, center, or right. You can also select the size, small medium or large. I usually select right and medium, which allows the text to flow around the picture. Because of the column size, if the picture is too large, the text falls underneath the picture, or in a one word column on either the left or right. I'm very new to all this, so much of what I know is through trial and error.

I'll check out your blog.
