War at War with PepsiCo?

The AP reports:
Members of the original funk band War say they can't be friends with PepsiCo.

They're suing the soft drink maker for more than $10 million, saying it did not negotiate with them to use their song "Why Can't We Be Friends" in a new commercial.
Here's what the fuss is about:

I think they've got a legitimate beef.
In a lawsuit filed Wednesday in Los Angeles, some of the group's original members and a relative said they learned the 1975 hit was in the ad for Pepsi MAX only when the commercials launched in July.
But PepsiCo fired back.
PepsiCo said in a statement it believes the lawsuit has no merit.

"Pepsi has a long history of partnering with iconic celebrities and musicians and we value our relationship with the music and entertainment industry," the company, based in Purchase, N.Y., said in a statement Thursday.
BUT, did they clear this with the artists? Their attorney Ken Freundlich noted: "Pepsi is selling its billion-dollar brand based on their voices and they have to pay for it." That seems reasonable to me. But while there at it, maybe the group should sue THIS guy, too!

But definitely not these cuties!!

Dog Day Afternoon

"This is why your mother says to wash your hands after handling money..." I just found this gem in the Washington Post.

It gives all new meaning to "dirty money" ... "money laundering" ... "wasteful spending" ...

What does this bring to mind for you?

Bush Plays Dodge Ball -- make that Shoes -- with Iraqi Journalist

Iraqi journalist Muntazer al-Zaidi from Al-Baghdadia television network shouted, "This is a farwell kiss, you dog" -- at least according to the MSNBC reporter in the clip (AP is saying the journalist shouted, "This is the end") -- and then threw a pair of shoes at President Bush. Hey, al-Zaidi was just doing what a lot of us have wanted to do for the past 8 years!

In Iraqi culture, throwing shoes at someone is a sign of contempt. Iraqis whacked a statue of Saddam with their shoes after U.S. marines toppled it to the ground following the 2003 invasion.
What I love most about this clip is how they keep showing the incident over, and over, and over ... ha!

There's No Doubt ... I'm just a girl

Okay, it's Sunday night and I was just surfing around the internets, when I came upon this at Jesus' General.

GenderAnalyzer
Man or woman -- who is writing that blog?
Okay, I'll bite! Here's what the Gender Analyzer had to say:

We think Yikes! is written by a woman (81%).
I'd say my cover had been blown ... if I ever thought I had one! ha

It looks like Jesus' General isn't as happy with the results, and has decided to fight back against a mere 72% "manly" rating.

Guns, war, NASCAR, football, slug you in the shoulder, Coors, taciturnity, balls, package, spit, John Wayne, Engelbert Humperdinck, pork rinds, frito pie, oh fuck it Engelbert Humperdinck, camo, hunting, fighting, combat, ear hair, little soldier, Gene Simmons, 24, Freebird, Doom, 357 magnum, Ann Coulter, beef jerky, Chuck Norris, Doug Giles, cowboy, Dodge Ram truck, hair club, viagra, spartan wrestling.
Hey JC, I've met you and can attest that you are definitely an 11 on the manly scale!

I'm fine with my results because in the words of Gwen Stefani "I'm just a girl" ...

Good times ahead

No time for blogging today ... I'm getting ready to spend the weekend with some of my favorite people! I'm not sure why Dr. Zaius is wearing his lab gloves, but it could have something to do with being in DC while George Bush is still occupying the White House. Never fear Dr. Z ... soon we will all be able to take the gloves off!

Bloggers and activists who care about safeguarding separation of church and state are making their way to Washington.

I'll write more about that later, but for now let's just enjoy this post by John Amato at Crooks and Liars: "Irrelevant"
